Assistant Shop, Event, & Social Media Manager
Job Summary
We're looking for a highly motivated and versatile Assistant Shop, Event, & Social Media Manager to be a driving force behind our charity's mission. This hands-on role combines retail operations, volunteer coordination, and social media & event management, making a direct impact on our community engagement and fundraising efforts. The ideal candidate will be a creative problem-solver with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, capable of managing a wide range of responsibilities and helping to shape our strategic direction. This is a part-time position based in Edinburgh, requiring adaptability, a proactive approach, and a passion for our cause, with possibility of evolving into a full-time role. The job roles and responsibilities will be assisted by the Event & Social Media Manager / Shop Manager, and management board.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
I. Retail Operations & Shopkeeping
Adaptive Inventory & Stock Management:
- Assist with inventory management for our unpredictable stock, including diligent tracking of incoming donations, effective sorting, and efficient allocation of goods.
- Assist with stocking and restocking procedures to ensure our retail space is consistently well-presented and appealing, making the most of available donations.
- Ensure the shop floor, donation intake area, and furniture store are kept clean, safe, and welcoming.
Customer Service & Sales:
- Deliver excellent customer handling, providing a warm, welcoming, and helpful experience for all visitors and customers.
- Accurately and securely manage all cash handling procedures, including sales transactions, and daily reconciliations.
SOP Execution:
- Follow and help implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on the shop floor, ensuring consistency in how stock is handled, priced, and displayed.
Duty Management & Keyholding:
- Act as the Duty Manager in the Shop Manager’s absence, taking responsibility for opening and closing the premises, managing keys, and ensuring building security.
II. Volunteer Coordination and Support
Daily Supervision
- Work side-by-side with volunteers on the shop floor, offering real-time guidance, task delegation, and emotional support.
- Help cultivate a supportive, inclusive, and positive workspace, particularly for volunteers from diverse backgrounds, those with mental health challenges, and young people.
Training & Rota Support:
- Deliver on-the-job training to new volunteers, helping them understand shop floor procedures, health and safety, and customer service standards.
- Assist the Shop Manager with managing the volunteer rota, communicating shift changes, and stepping in to cover critical operational gaps.
III. Events and Social Media Support
Event Assistance
- Assist with physical event logistics, venue setup, and customer hosting for community and fundraising events.
PR Support:
- Capture photos and videos of unique shop donations, volunteer milestones, hub activities, events, and promotional material to pass on to the Social Media Manager to keep our channels dynamic and current.
Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to think creatively and strategically while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- A degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
