Community Sport Development Manager
Overview
The Vernon Roosters Australian Football Club (operating as the Okanagan Roosters) are seeking suitable and qualified applicants for the position of Area Development Manager for the Vernon/Greater Okanagan region, during the summer of 2026, under the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
The Area Development Manager will be integral to and responsible for the growth of Australian Football in Vernon and surrounding cities, so the candidate should be located in/around the area.
Area Development Manager Roles and Responsibilities
- Build relationships with local stakeholders to grow the game of Australian Football in Vernon/Kelowna etc.
- Organize and conduct Junior Australian Football sessions including:
- In school sessions
- Camps and other junior settings
- Out of school hours sessions (eg, Auskick & Kangakick),
- Conduct Senior training sessions and introductory sessions in adult settings, including small-sided games and come and try days
- Report participation numbers to direct supervisor
- Manage appropriate equipment and materials to conduct all sessions
- Assist local stakeholders in developing the club
- Marketing the game including recruitment and social media
- Assist in planning and execution of the Kelowna Cup and Parallel Cup
Useful Qualities/Skills
- Sports coaching experience
- Ability to work without direct supervision
- Public speaking skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build rapport/connect with a wide range of people
- Valid driver’s license and car
Prior knowledge of Australian Football is helpful but not essential as training will be provided.
