Content Writer
Content Writer
About the role
We are building a research-driven publication focused on consumer finance such as digital payments, payment restrictions, hidden fees, dispute mechanics, and the evolution of how people pay. Our content competes head-on with some established fintech publications. We win not by writing more, but by writing better, more original, and more deeply researched content than anyone else in our niches.
We are looking for a writer who is genuinely fascinated by how digital payments work. Someone who follows fintech news, is interested in deep diving into payments, someone who is ready to research and detail the experience, who is willing to experiment to understand why this works and the other doesn't, and gets excited about translating these topics into clear, persuasive articles that consumers can read and act on.
What you'll do
- Research and write 3–6 deeply original articles per week on specific payment options, mechanics, payment evolution, hidden fees, dispute and refund tactics, retention offers, neobanks, digital wallets, and adjacent consumer finance topics
- Conduct primary research: test products, document customer service interactions, gather verified reader data points, dig into actual fine print and policies
- Own end-to-end content production from ideation through publishing: from brief to outline to draft to self-edit to SEO optimization to publishing and promotion
- Build out structured database content where each entry is a permanent indexed page
- Capture supporting media: screenshots, annotated images, screen recordings of product flows, before/after comparisons
- Apply SEO best practices to every piece: keyword research, search intent matching, header hierarchy, internal linking, meta optimization
- Track content performance through Google Analytics and Search Console, and iterate based on what's actually ranking and converting
- Maintain the editorial calendar, hit weekly publishing targets, and communicate proactively when something will slip
- Stay current on financial innovation by reading industry newsletters, monitoring regulators, and tracking competitor publications
Hard requirements (non-negotiable)
- Minimum 2 years of professional writing experience, with at least 18 months focused on fintech, payments, banking, personal finance, or directly adjacent verticals
- A live portfolio with at least 5 published pieces in fintech or personal finance, with links accessible without paywalls. Applications without portfolio links will not be reviewed.
- Demonstrable working knowledge of the payment landscape
- Strong understanding of consumer finance pain points: hidden fees, chargeback and dispute mechanics, retention offers, fee waivers, vouchers, coupons, promotions, cashback, points, card rewards basics
- Native-level written English — US and British spellings, idioms, dollar formats, and cultural references must come naturally
- Self-directed work ethic: can take a topic brief and execute independently, set your own deadlines within the editorial calendar, and communicate blockers asynchronously
- Comfortable receiving and acting on critical editorial feedback
Skills you must already have
SEO and content strategy
- On-page SEO: keyword research, search intent classification (informational, navigational, transactional, commercial investigation), meta titles and descriptions, header hierarchy (H1–H4), internal linking strategy, image alt text, URL slug optimization
- Off-page SEO fundamentals: backlinks, guest posting, citation building, digital PR basics
- Technical SEO awareness: schema markup, Core Web Vitals, mobile optimization, crawlability, sitemap submissions

- Basic HTML or Markdown for direct publishing
- Familiarity with WordPress, Webflow, Ghost, or Sanity
- Strong personal social presence on X/Twitter or LinkedIn in the fintech space
What we will not accept
- AI-generated writing. We use AI for research only. The actual prose must be yours. We test for AI authorship in the assessment phase and through ongoing reviews.
- Surface-level content. Every piece must include primary research, original analysis, first-hand observation, or proprietary data points. No rewrites of competitor content.
- Generic "best of" listicles copied from elsewhere on the web.
- Applications without portfolio links. No portfolio = no review. Do not apply expecting an exception.
