Environmental Risk Manager 1

Annual salary: $ 109,700.00 - 138,700.00
What you'll do
Phases 1 and 2 extend approximately 440 km between Prince George and Terrace, adjacent to existing circuits 5L61, 5L62
and 5L63. while Phase 3 extends 350 km north of Terrace to Bob Quinn. In addition to these scopes, the NCTL project also
includes expansions to existing and new greenfield substations plus an extensive thermal upgrade to the existing circuits
5L61, 5L62 and 5L63. All scopes are expected to be complete by 2032. Phases 1 and 2 are considered a
first for BC Hydro as they will be developed and operated as assets that are co-owned with multiple First Nations.
The Environmental Risk Manager will be the primary liaison between BC Hydro’s environmental manager/management,
Construction/Commercial Management, Contractors and Project based environmental staff.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understand the NCTL project environmental requirements, the CEMP (Construction Environmental Management Plan),
- Liaise between BC Hydro’s construction and environmental management, Natural Resource Specialists, Contractors,
- Provides technical advice, leadership, and instructions to field personnel in the event of environmental issues. Clearly
- Implement, monitor and clarify the Environmental Protection Plans both for Contractors and BC Hydro.
- Observe, record and report on compliance of construction activities with the environmental requirements.
- Review, approve and manage Contractor’s environmental submissions and requests for information.
- Recognize and communicate environmental risks associated with construction activities.
- Assist contractors’ and BC Hydro environmental staff in proactively managing environmental risks.
- Develop and advance relationships with Aboriginal communities, First Nations Guardians, contractors, regulators, and
- Identify, document and report environmental incidents, and effectively communicate issues.
- Provide oversight and directly manage Natural Resource Specialists (NRS) onsite.
What you bring
- A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in the environmental field, including at least three (3)
- Post-secondary degree in a relevant field such as environmental sciences, engineering, or other relevant discipline.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Eligible for professional registration in British Columbia, specifically RPF, RPBio, PEng, PAg, PGeo, AScT.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of environmental risk management for large construction projects in British
- Experience managing and effectively working on projects with First Nation involvement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to act independently and lead crews in the field and remote locations with limited supervision.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Strong and effective relationship management skills and the ability to work effectively with parties holding multiple
- Knowledge of and experience with the electrical utility industry, environmental regulatory agencies, and environmental
- Strong leadership, organizational, time management and computer skills are required.
- Ability to provide strong leadership and direction to team members and ability to resolve issues with stakeholders at

- This is for 1 full-time temporary (FTT) M&P Group 44 opportunity for approximately 4 years, headquartered in Prince
