8:30 – 4:30 Monday - Friday (some evening/weekend flexibility required)
About the Kids with Cancer Society:
Kids with Cancer Society (KWCS) is the essential partner for families facing pediatric cancer in Northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories. KWCS ensures families have everything they need beyond treatment including financial relief, emotional support, and practical help for the whole family. Free of charge. From diagnosis through survivorship, and/or bereavement.
Position Summary:
The Communications & Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the mission of the Kids with Cancer Society by building strong community awareness and engagement through strategic marketing, communications, and volunteer coordination. This is a hands-on role for a creative, organized, and people-oriented professional who can balance storytelling with systems thinking.
Key Responsibilities:Marketing & Communications (60%)
· Execute annual marketing and communications plans aligned with organizational goals and marketing strategy.
· Manage and grow the Society’s website and social media presence across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.).
· Create compelling content including newsletters, promotional materials, donor spotlights, impact stories and annual report, with support of the KWCS graphic designer.
· Coordinate internal communications strategies for KWCS families and staff.
· Oversee brand consistency across all channels and materials.
· Support media relations and PR opportunities in collaboration with leadership.
· Track campaign analytics and social engagement metrics; adjust tactics accordingly.
· Support the promotion of family events, fundraisers, and awareness campaigns.
Volunteer Coordination (40%)
· Recruit, screen, onboard, schedule and train volunteers for programs, events, and office support.
· Maintain a volunteer database and ensure proper tracking of hours and impact.
· Plan and deliver volunteer appreciation activities and recognition initiatives.
· Serve as the point of contact for volunteers, fostering a positive, meaningful experience.
· Collaborate with fundraising and program staff to ensure appropriate volunteer placements and support.
Qualifications:
· Degree or diploma in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field—or equivalent experience.
· 3+ years of experience in nonprofit marketing, volunteer coordination, or community engagement.
· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong understanding of digital marketing, especially social media and email campaigns.
· Proficient with mail email management tools and CRM software
· Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.

Working Conditions:
In person, based primarily at the Kids with Cancer Society House.
Occasional evening or weekend work required for events and volunteer activities.

The compensation range for this role is $55,000 - $65,000, commensurate with experience. The Kids with Cancer Society
