The Team:
The Chief Corporate Services Office within the Group has a mission of ensuring that the highest standards of excellence are maintained in the delivery of group Strategy, Sustainability, Public Relations and Enterprise Security activities and initiatives.
The Sustainability Function, within the Corporate Services Office, leads a drive for excellence, setting and delivering the sustainability strategy and delivery programmes. This function also manages all sustainability-related disclosures.
The Opportunity:
The role of Sustainability Manager will lead this drive for excellence managing and overseeing the development and execution of the sustainability strategy working closely with the Head of Sustainability to align with the overall Group Strategy, and providing subject matter expertise to a variety of business units across the organisation on how ESG principles can be embedded into practice.
The role holder will be a trusted advisor driving excellence in sustainability through their subject matter expertise, thought leadership, best practice and embedding sustainability throughout the business.
The role holder will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams. The role holder will be results oriented with strong people leadership, influencing and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise for the Group’s Sustainability Strategy (focused on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) elements) and define associated targets, KPIs and frameworks for impact measurement.
- Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Sustainability practices throughout the business, considering climate, nature and people. Embed sustainability into decision making throughout the organisation, e.g. across projects, operations and supply chain.
- Lead sustainability initiatives, examples include Climate Advisory (Carbon disclosures, Climate Transition Planning, Taxonomy disclosures, Lifecycle analysis, climate impact of investments, CBAM), Responsible Procurement Advisory, Strategic Nature Advisory (TNFD)
- Analyse ESG policies, frameworks and best practice, and develop actionable roadmaps to enhance EirGrids sustainability practices.
- Provide subject matter expertise to the production of the Group’s annual Sustainability and ESG disclosures, working closely with the Sustainability Reporting Manager delivering accurate, robust, timely reports including supporting narratives.
- Provide subject matter expertise to the assurance of Sustainability disclosures in collaboration with the Sustainability Reporting Manager, Internal Audit and third party auditors.
- Identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities that may impact EirGrid’s strategic sustainability objectives and work with the business owners to mitigate or exploit these.
- Lead ESG risk and opportunity assessments to inform strategic decisions considering for eg. climate, nature, socio-economic.
- Develop and demonstrate sustainability thought leadership, lead sustainability-related best practice trend analysis including developing position papers and briefings, presenting to internal stakeholders including the EirGrid plc Board, and externally as required.
- Ensure strategic and business issues and proposed solutions are highlighted appropriately to the Head of Sustainability.
Critical knowledge, skills and experience:
- Qualified to degree level or professional qualification in a relevant discipline
- Prior experience working in Sustainability Consulting or the electricity sector and/or a regulated environment is helpful, but not essential
- Experience collaborating with stakeholders to identify, scope and embed sustainability initiatives throughout an organisation.
- Experience developing and delivering sustainability initiatives, examples include Carbon disclosures, Climate Transition Planning, Taxonomy disclosures, Lifecycle analysis, climate impact of investments, CBAM)
- Experience developing and implementation an ESG strategy
- Ability to operate outside of direct expertise, in particular engaging with technical specialists, to gather relevant information.
- Strategic and operational thinker with the ability to implement operational solutions in a cross functional environment
- Strong organisational, planning and process management skills
- Strong business acumen and ability to understand the overall business operating model within the context of the organisation being a commercial state company in a regulated environment.
- Ability to build credibility and strong relationships with stakeholders in a cross functional environment with ability to influence and engage in constructive challenge
